Mosaics - About the Artist
Daniel
Rust is a British mosaicist who draws inspiration and creativity
for his mosaics from living in Spain. Daniel works in the medium
of hand cut glass
and tessarae mosaic tiles; his aim is to produce mosaic commissions
that are beautiful, unique and fulfil the need for functional, permanent
works of art.
Spain has given Daniel the opportunity to explore colour and shape
and "satisfy the passion" to integrate unrelated small pieces of
tile into a single work of mosaic art. Spain continues to inspire
creativity and style in this highly detailed profession.
"I'm still amazed at the variety of work clients
ask me to produce. This has ranged from sign-writing for Apartment
blocks to portraits of grandchildren for retired expatriates.
I have also been asked to produce murals and paintings for interiors
and exteriors. The range of work has also challenged me to work
in different mediums such as Italian tessarae tiles, hand cut
sheets of glass
and wall and floor tiles from the local region.
I am also pleased about the afternoon mosaic courses
for groups which give people the chance to try mosaics as a new
and worthwhile past time. The afternoon sessions have been great
fun and people have been surprised on the quality of work they
produce on their first attempt. Even from the first couple of
sessions I am pleased to say there have been many people taking
up mosaics as a new hobby.
Mosaicing in Spain has been really exciting and
I look forward to new challenges in the years to come.
Daniel."
